Stretch marks are lines that appear on the surface of the skin. At first appearance, they appear red or white, before fading to a white colour. Stretch marks occur on areas where the skin has been stretched, and are more common in areas where fat is deposited; for example, the tummy, breasts, and thighs.
Stretch marks are a common side effect of the skin stretching in a short space of time, such as during pregnancy, after rapid weight gain, or puberty.
