Acne Scars

Acne scars are an associated complication of acne. Whilst any type of spot can lead to scarring, particularly when picked or squeezed, it is more likely to occur in more serious types of acne, such as nodules or cysts.

The detail

Acne scars usually take one of three different forms. Ice pick scars are small holes in the skin that look as though they have been pierced by something sharp; rolling scars occur when scar tissue forms under the skin, giving an uneven appearance on the surface, and boxcar scars cause rounded “crater-like” indents in the skin. Acne scars can be distressing, and affect the self-confidence of the sufferer greatly.

The only effective way to treat acne scarring is with cosmetic procedures, including skin peels, microdermabrasion, medicated skincare, or laser treatment like that with Cynosure’s Icon Laser, to remove skins surrounding the scar area or to stimulate collagen growth and repair damage caused.
