Pigmentation
Pigmentation is the medical term for patches or multiple areas on the skin’s surface that appear darker than the patient’s natural skin tone. This occurs when melanin, a naturally occurring pigment in the body, builds up and deposits in one particular spot; thus resulting in it taking on a darker appearance.
Pigmentation and hyperpigmentation occurs when melanin, a naturally existing pigment in the skin, builds up and deposits in specific areas, resulting in darker patches. Commonly referred to as age spots, liver spots, sun spots, or freckles (known as “lentigines”), hyperpigmentation is often caused by prolonged sun exposure.
Hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy, and genetic factors, like freckles or birthmarks, can also influence skin pigmentation. Additionally, sun damage may contribute to other skin concerns, including fine lines, sagging skin, and reduced collagen production.
At S-Thetics Clinic, we successfully treat pigmentation with laser therapy, chemical peels, and advanced medical skincare. For more information or to book a consultation, please contact our in-house clinic team today.
