Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
Sweating is a part of everyday life, however, some of our patients suffer from ‘excessive sweating’ (hyperhidrosis) – a chronic condition affecting over 1.5 million people in the UK.
Our body is designed to sweat in order to help us regulate our core temperature, especially during periods of excessive heat, exercise and even during illness.
However, while sweat is produced to regulate body temperature, hyperhidrosis sufferers produce an amount of sweat that far exceeds that needed for temperature regulation.
This can be limited to a specific area or affect the entire body, which is usually caused by an underlying health condition such as an overactive thyroid gland.

HOW IT WORKS
Botulinum toxin blocks the signals from the brain to the sweat glands reducing the amount of sweat produced
HOW MANY TREATMENTS
One to two treatments
Though the underlying cause is uncertain, it is thought that genetics may play a role as two thirds of patients have a family history of the condition.
Some patients may experience symptoms during times of high stress, emotion or exercise but it can also occur spontaneously.
At S-Thetics Clinic, we offer our patients a solution with our minimally-invasive botulinum toxin treatment.
This is injected into the skin in small doses and works by blocking the signals from the brain to the sweat glands, in turn reducing the amount of sweat produced.
Please note: Individual results may vary
Ideal treatment for
Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, can affect the whole body, but is usually concentrated in certain areas, such as the: armpits, palms of hands, soles of feet, or the face. While excessive sweating is rarely harmful, it is known to cause embarrassment, self-consciousness, and in some cases even depression and anxiety for the sufferer.
FAQs
This treatment will help to treat the effects of hyperhidrosis by injecting botulinum toxin into the affected areas.
The effects last approximately four to seven months on average, depending on the individual.
This works by blocking the signals from the brain to the sweat glands, in turn reducing the amount of sweat produced.
At S-Thetics Clinic, we believe a detailed consultation is essential before performing any treatment.
It is during this consultation that we will discuss your suitability for botulinum toxin injections, though, generally, they can be used on a wide range of patients.
As with any medical procedure, there is always a risk of unwanted side effects with botulinum toxin injections but most side effects are normally short-lived and often relate to the injection procedure.
Following injection, there may be redness, slight swelling or bruising around the injection area. However, these usually only last a few days.
For best results, we advise patients to avoid massaging the area that has been treated. We also recommend avoiding exercise and alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.
Apart from that, patients should be able to resume usual, everyday activities straight away.
